Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with opportunities in education, technology, finance, healthcare, logistics, tourism and professional services. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally fast-paced, with excellent public transport, reliable services and a strong food scene. Housing ranges from shared rooms and condominium units to public Housing and Development Board flats, although rent can be high. Living costs are manageable with planning, but central areas are more expensive. Foreign professionals usually need an Employment Pass or S Pass sponsored by an employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and current government criteria. New arrivals should arrange housing, healthcare coverage, banking and a local mobile plan. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, but beaches, parks and nearby regional travel provide attractive leisure options.
