Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, engineering, healthcare, tourism, and manufacturing, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, and Kota Kinabalu. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous cultures, with diverse food, festivals, and languages. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, although Kuala Lumpur and popular island destinations are more expensive. Penang is attractive for professionals seeking a relaxed coastal setting, while Langkawi, Perhentian, Redang, and Tioman are better suited to holidays than daily commuting. Employment usually requires an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process; dependants may qualify for related passes. New arrivals should arrange housing, tax registration, medical coverage, and a local bank account. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Malay helps with everyday life. Public transport is strongest in major cities, and Malaysia’s warm climate supports an outdoor lifestyle.
