Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare and tourism, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. The country combines modern city life with beaches, rainforests and diverse food traditions. Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences shape a generally welcoming, multicultural workplace, although professional etiquette and respect for religious customs are important. Kuala Lumpur provides extensive shopping, dining and public transport, while Penang offers a more relaxed lifestyle and Johor benefits from proximity to Singapore. Living costs are usually lower than in Singapore, Hong Kong or major Western cities, though housing in central Kuala Lumpur can be expensive. Foreign professionals generally require employer-sponsored work authorization, such as an Employment Pass, before starting work. Employers usually assist with applications, relocation and onboarding. Review current immigration rules, tax obligations, healthcare coverage and dependent arrangements before moving.
