Destination Guide

Thailand offers strong opportunities in logistics, tourism, technology, manufacturing, retail and international business, especially around Bangkok, the Eastern Economic Corridor, Phuket and Koh Samui. Popular islands include Phuket for international connections and services, Koh Samui for resort employment and a developed expatriate community, Koh Phangan for a relaxed lifestyle and digital-nomad scene, and Koh Tao for diving and tourism work. Island life is generally warm, social and affordable compared with many Western countries, although housing, transport and imported goods can cost more in tourist areas. Thai culture values respect, politeness, family and saving face; learning basic Thai is helpful. Foreign employees normally need a Thai employer, work permit and Non-Immigrant B visa, with the employer supporting documentation. A digital-nomad or tourist stay does not normally authorize local employment. Check current immigration rules before relocating.
