Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in logistics, shared services, finance, technology, manufacturing, tourism and customer operations. Kuala Lumpur and Selangor are the main employment hubs, while Penang and Johor also have strong industrial and service economies. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, with excellent food, public transport in major cities and easy access to beaches and islands such as Langkawi, Tioman and Penang. Foreign nationals usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process. Relocating employees should prepare certified qualifications, a valid passport, medical or background documents where required and proof of employment. Housing and transport are easiest to arrange near major business districts, and newcomers should check tax, healthcare and dependent-pass requirements before moving.
