Indonesia offers varied opportunities across its major islands. Java, especially Jakarta, is the main centre for corporate services, logistics, finance, technology and international companies; Surabaya is another important commercial and port city. Sumatra has strong activity in energy, manufacturing, plantations and transport, while Kalimantan is developing around resources, infrastructure and the new capital area. Bali is attractive for tourism, hospitality and remote-work lifestyles, though professional logistics roles are more limited. Indonesian culture values politeness, community, family and respect for hierarchy. Living costs vary significantly: Jakarta is relatively expensive, while many regional cities are more affordable. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa, with the company handling much of the process. Relocating candidates should arrange housing, health insurance, tax registration and document legalisation, and should expect traffic, tropical weather and a diverse, multilingual society.
