Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state and a major centre for shipping, aviation, logistics, finance, technology and international business. Maritime professionals can find opportunities with shipowners, technical managers, port operators, marine suppliers, freight forwarders and offshore companies. English is widely used at work, while the population is multicultural, with Chinese, Malay, Indian and international communities. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and convenient, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare, diverse food and many shopping and entertainment options. Housing is a significant expense, especially in central areas, although public apartments and suburban locations can be more affordable. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, commonly an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to salary and eligibility rules. Relocating usually requires arranging housing, health coverage, banking and tax registration. Singapore’s warm, humid climate and high cost of living should be considered before moving.
