Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in shipping, logistics, manufacturing, technology, finance, tourism and shared services, particularly around Kuala Lumpur, Port Klang, Penang and Johor. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, with diverse food, festivals and traditions. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest professional and lifestyle options, while Penang and Langkawi offer a more relaxed coastal setting; Sabah and Sarawak provide access to distinctive island and nature destinations. Living costs are generally moderate compared with Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas can be expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval depending on the role, salary and immigration requirements. Relocating workers should arrange healthcare coverage, housing, tax advice and document authentication before arrival. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Malay is helpful for daily life.
