Destination Guide

Malaysia offers career opportunities in shipping, logistics, manufacturing, technology, finance, tourism, and shared services. Major employment hubs include Kuala Lumpur, Port Klang, Penang, Johor, and Sabah and Sarawak. The country is culturally diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous, and international communities, and English is widely used in business. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many regional business centers, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular islands such as Penang and Langkawi can be more expensive. Malaysia has tropical weather, excellent food, beaches, and convenient domestic travel. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; requirements vary by position, salary, and nationality. Relocating candidates should confirm pass eligibility, medical insurance, tax obligations, housing, and schooling before accepting an offer. Public transport is strongest in Kuala Lumpur, while a car may be useful elsewhere.
