Dive Leader – Dive Instructor Position

Maldives Padi $1,200–$2,500/month, often with accommodation, meals, equipment, commissions, and service benefits*
Job Description

The role typically requires a current PADI or equivalent instructor certification, professional dive insurance, first-aid and oxygen-provider training, and substantial experience leading recreational dives. Candidates should be confident supervising guests, conducting briefings, teaching courses, completing paperwork, and maintaining high standards of safety and customer service. Experience with local marine life, boat diving, equipment checks, and working in an international resort environment is highly desirable. The successful candidate is expected to be personable, reliable, physically fit, adaptable, and comfortable working at sea and in tropical conditions. English is generally essential, while additional languages and knowledge of other certification agencies may be advantageous.

Company Info

PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, is one of the world's largest recreational diving organizations. It develops diver-training programs, instructor standards, educational materials, and safety practices used by dive professionals and centers internationally. Through its certification network, PADI supports millions of divers and thousands of dive businesses across many destinations, including the Maldives. PADI also operates a job platform that connects qualified dive professionals with resorts, liveaboards, dive centers, and other marine employers. For a position advertised through PADI, the actual employment contract, salary, accommodation, and benefits may be provided by the individual resort or dive operator rather than by PADI itself. Applicants should confirm the legal employer, contract terms, working schedule, visa sponsorship, and included benefits before accepting an offer.

Destination Guide

The Maldives offers strong opportunities for dive instructors, divemasters, marine guides, resort staff, hospitality professionals, boat crew, and water-sports specialists. Life is centered around small resort islands, local islands, lagoons, and the ocean, with world-class reefs, manta rays, whale sharks, and warm temperatures year-round. Resort life can be social but remote, with long working days and limited access to larger towns. Maldivian culture is welcoming and predominantly Muslim, so respectful clothing and behavior are expected, particularly on local islands. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Approval and work visa; entering as a tourist does not permit employment. Employers commonly arrange accommodation, meals, airport transfers, and visa processing, but terms vary. Relocation usually involves flying to Velana International Airport near Malé, followed by a domestic flight or speedboat transfer. Confirm medical checks, insurance, flights, leave, and contract conditions before moving.
