Destination Guide

Japan offers hotel and tourism jobs in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Okinawa, Hokkaido and other destinations, including reservations, front office, food and beverage, housekeeping and guest relations. Tokyo provides the widest employment market but has high rent and a fast-paced lifestyle. Japanese culture values punctuality, politeness, cleanliness, teamwork and respect for hierarchy. Daily life is convenient, with excellent public transport, safe neighborhoods, reliable services and varied food, though language can be challenging outside major tourist areas. Foreign applicants usually need an employer-sponsored work visa, commonly under an applicable professional or specified-skills category; requirements depend on education, experience, nationality and job duties. A Certificate of Eligibility is normally obtained before travel. Applicants should confirm visa eligibility, employment conditions, housing support, insurance and taxes with the employer. Learning conversational Japanese improves workplace integration and career prospects. Tokyo is not an island, but Japan is an archipelago with very different regional lifestyles and climates.
