Destination Guide

Taiwan offers strong opportunities in hospitality, technology, manufacturing, education, finance, and international business. Taipei and New Taipei City provide the broadest employment markets, while Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung offer growing alternatives with generally lower living costs. Taiwanese culture values respect, punctuality, teamwork, and considerate communication. Daily life is convenient, with excellent public transport, affordable food, night markets, hiking, beaches, and a lively café and cultural scene. Mandarin is important for many local-facing roles, although English is useful in international hotels and companies. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and an appropriate resident visa or certificate; requirements vary by nationality and job. Relocating candidates should arrange a passport, qualifications, employment contract, health checks if required, housing, and local health insurance registration. Taiwan is generally safe and welcoming, but newcomers should prepare for hot, humid summers and occasional typhoons.
