Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest hospitality job markets. Opportunities are common in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, events, aviation and facilities management. The culture is multicultural and generally respectful, with Islamic traditions influencing dress, public behaviour and holidays. Dubai offers a modern, active lifestyle with beaches, shopping, nightlife, desert activities and extensive public transport, although accommodation and leisure costs can be high. Employees normally need an employer-sponsored residence visa and work permit before starting legally; employers usually arrange medical testing, Emirates ID processing and residency formalities. Candidates should never work on a tourist visa and should carefully review salary, accommodation, transport, meals, working hours, leave and recruitment-fee clauses. Relocation is easiest when the employer provides housing or transport. Summers are extremely hot, so indoor facilities and air-conditioned accommodation are particularly valuable.
