Destination Guide

Malta offers strong employment opportunities in hospitality, tourism, catering, gaming, aviation, construction, healthcare, technology and financial services. English is an official language and is widely used at work, while Maltese and Italian are also common. Life combines Mediterranean weather, historic towns, beaches, swimming and a lively social scene, although summer can be hot and accommodation costs are high, especially around St Julian’s, Sliema and Valletta. Public transport is widely available, but commuting may be slower during peak periods. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can generally work after completing local registration requirements. Non-EU nationals normally need a confirmed job offer and a Single Permit, with the employer involved in the application process; processing time and eligibility vary. New arrivals should budget for deposits, health insurance where required, transport and initial living costs, and verify employment terms before relocating.
