Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest hospitality job markets. Opportunities are common in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, events and luxury resorts, particularly for trained chefs and experienced service professionals. The culture combines Islamic traditions with a highly international population; modest dress, respectful behaviour and awareness of local customs are important. Lifestyle can be modern and active, although summer temperatures are extremely hot and living costs in Dubai can be high. Employees normally need an employer-sponsored residence visa and work permit, arranged after a formal offer and medical checks. Confirm contract terms covering salary, accommodation, transport, meals, insurance, flights and leave before relocating. A valid passport, authenticated certificates where required and a clean employment record may be needed.
