Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a modern Gulf country rather than a single island, although Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island is a major tourism and entertainment destination. Hospitality, aviation, retail, construction, healthcare, technology and finance provide many employment opportunities. The culture combines Emirati traditions, Islamic values and a highly international population, so respectful dress and behavior are important. Life in Abu Dhabi is generally safe, convenient and comfortable, with beaches, malls, restaurants, theme parks and desert activities. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are pleasant. Most overseas employees require an employer-sponsored residence visa and work permit; employers commonly arrange medical checks, Emirates ID processing and, in hospitality, accommodation or transport. Candidates should confirm the written contract, benefits, probation terms and visa arrangements before relocating. Living costs vary, with accommodation being the largest expense if it is not provided.
