Destination Guide

Langkawi is a relaxed Malaysian island known for beaches, rainforest, mangroves, waterfalls and a relatively affordable lifestyle. Tourism creates opportunities in hotels, spas, restaurants, water activities, transportation, retail and guest services, with stronger hiring during peak travel periods. Local culture blends Malay traditions with Chinese, Indian and international influences, and respectful dress and behaviour are appreciated outside resort areas. Life is quieter than in Kuala Lumpur, although transport is more limited and a scooter or car can be useful. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and should not begin employment on a tourist pass; the company generally handles the relevant immigration process. Before relocating, confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, meals, insurance, airfare and contract terms. Langkawi's tropical climate is warm and humid year-round, with wetter periods during the monsoon season.
