Destination Guide

Langkawi is Malaysia’s main resort island and offers hospitality, culinary, housekeeping, front-office, spa, marine-tourism, and maintenance opportunities, particularly in luxury hotels and restaurants. The culture combines Malay traditions with Chinese, Indian, and international influences; modest dress and respectful behavior are appreciated outside resort areas. Lifestyle is relaxed, with beaches, rainforest, waterfalls, island-hopping, diving, and local night markets. Malaysia normally requires foreign workers to obtain an employer-sponsored work permit before starting employment, with the employer handling much of the approval process; requirements vary by nationality and role. Candidates should confirm visa rules with the employer or Malaysian authorities. Relocation costs, housing, transport, and medical benefits should be clarified in the contract. Langkawi is generally quieter than Kuala Lumpur, but imported goods and some services can be expensive.
