Destination Guide

Maldives employment is concentrated in resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving, watersports, wellness, housekeeping, engineering, finance, and management. Resort life is usually peaceful but structured, with staff accommodation, meals, uniforms, and transport commonly provided; work schedules can be demanding and social life often centers on colleagues and staff facilities. Maldivian culture is friendly, community-oriented, and influenced by Islamic traditions, so modest dress and respect for local customs are important, especially on inhabited islands. Alcohol is generally restricted to licensed tourist resorts. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and employment approval; entry permission is not a substitute for a work permit. Employers usually arrange the process, medical checks, and required documentation. Candidates should confirm salary, gratuity, leave, insurance, flights, accommodation, and permit responsibilities before relocating.
