Destination Guide

Spain’s Canary Islands, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, offer strong employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, wellness, events, retail and customer service. Tenerife has a warm climate, an international community and a relaxed outdoor lifestyle, with beaches, hiking, water sports and volcanic landscapes. Local culture blends Canarian traditions with Spanish and international influences; Spanish is essential for daily life, although English and German are valuable in tourism. EU, EEA and Swiss nationals can relocate with relatively simple registration requirements. Non-EU candidates generally need an employer-sponsored work and residence permit before starting employment. Relocating involves arranging accommodation, healthcare registration, a Spanish tax number and social security details. Salaries may be lower than in mainland European cities, but the climate and lifestyle are attractive. Tenerife has good air links, healthcare and everyday services, though housing costs vary considerably by resort area.
