Destination Guide

Qatar is a compact Gulf country and peninsula rather than an island, with Doha as its main employment and lifestyle center. Hotels, restaurants, tourism, aviation, events, retail, construction, healthcare, and technology offer opportunities for international workers. The culture is welcoming but conservative; modest dress, respect for Islam, and sensitivity during Ramadan are important. Doha provides modern malls, beaches, museums, restaurants, sports venues, and desert excursions, although summers are extremely hot. Most overseas employees work under employer-sponsored visas. Employers commonly arrange residency permits, medical checks, accommodation or an allowance, transport, and return flights, depending on the contract. Before relocating, confirm salary, service charge, housing, meals, working hours, leave, insurance, and visa costs in writing. Qatar has no personal income tax on employment wages.
