Destination Guide

The Maldives offers employment mainly in resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving, watersports, engineering, housekeeping, food and beverage, and guest services. Resort islands are multicultural workplaces, with staff from across Asia, Africa, and Europe. Life is peaceful and community-based, but remote: entertainment, shopping, and medical services may be limited compared with major cities. Maldivian culture is welcoming and strongly influenced by Islam, so respectful dress and behavior are important, especially outside resort areas. Employers commonly provide staff accommodation, meals, uniforms, transport, and sometimes flights or medical insurance. Foreign workers require a valid employment approval and work visa, normally arranged by the employer after a job offer and medical checks. Candidates should confirm contract terms, salary, service charge, leave, airfare, and accommodation before travelling. Strong English, adaptability, and comfort with island living are valuable.
