Destination Guide

Phuket offers strong employment opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, tourism, wellness, property management, diving, entertainment and travel services. Mai Khao is quieter and more residential than Patong, while Phuket Town provides culture, cafés, markets and historic Sino-Portuguese architecture. Island life combines beaches, warm weather, outdoor activities and a relaxed social atmosphere, although traffic, humidity and seasonal tourism demands can be challenging. Thai culture places importance on politeness, respect, family and saving face; learning basic Thai is useful. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit before legally working, with the employer handling much of the process. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, health insurance, relocation support and visa responsibilities before accepting an offer. Monthly living costs vary widely, but Mai Khao is often less expensive than central tourist areas.
