Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, resorts, tourism, food production and hospitality management, particularly in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hokkaido and Okinawa. The country combines modern urban life with traditional customs, seasonal festivals, excellent public transport and a strong appreciation for punctuality, cleanliness and respectful service. Tokyo provides extensive career options but has high housing and living costs; regional cities may offer a slower lifestyle and lower expenses. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work visa, with the appropriate status depending on the role and qualifications. Graduates should confirm sponsorship, Japanese-language expectations, working hours, accommodation and relocation support before accepting an offer. Useful preparations include obtaining translated documents, arranging health insurance, budgeting for initial housing costs and learning workplace Japanese. Japan is generally safe, though newcomers should prepare for earthquakes, humid summers and cultural differences in communication and workplace etiquette.
