Destination Guide

Langkawi is Malaysia’s principal island destination and offers opportunities in resorts, restaurants, travel agencies, watersports, wellness, events, retail and tourism management. Its culture blends Malay traditions with Chinese, Indian and international influences, while local life remains relaxed and community-oriented. Popular activities include beaches, island-hopping, mangrove tours, diving, sunset cruises and exploring the UNESCO-listed Langkawi Geopark. The lifestyle is quieter than Kuala Lumpur, with warm weather, comparatively manageable living costs and a strong expatriate and tourism community, although transport is easier with a car or motorbike. Foreign workers normally need an employment pass arranged and sponsored by the employer before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and position. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, relocation support, healthcare, tax and contract details directly with Marriott before accepting an offer.
