Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates, offering strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, events, aviation, retail, construction, technology and finance. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the main employment centres, with a highly international workforce and modern infrastructure. UAE culture blends Islamic traditions with diverse global influences; respectful dress, public behaviour and awareness of Ramadan customs are important. Lifestyle options include beaches, shopping, restaurants, desert activities and vibrant entertainment, although summers are extremely hot. Most foreign employees need employer-sponsored residence and work visas; working without the correct permit is not allowed. Employers often arrange entry permits, medical testing, Emirates ID processing and health insurance. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, transport, working hours, probation, leave and gratuity terms in writing. Living costs, especially rent, can be high, so housing benefits and commuting distance should be considered carefully.
