Destination Guide

Indonesia offers opportunities in construction, infrastructure, property, energy, mining, manufacturing, technology and tourism. Java, especially Jakarta, is the main commercial and corporate center, while Surabaya is important for industry and logistics. Bali provides a relaxed international lifestyle and strong tourism employment, although housing can be expensive. Sumatra and Kalimantan offer opportunities linked to plantations, mining, ports and large infrastructure projects; Sulawesi and eastern islands are developing more gradually. Indonesian culture values courtesy, relationships, community and religious diversity. Major cities provide modern amenities, but traffic, humidity and rainy seasons can be challenging. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocating employees should arrange certified qualifications, health insurance, accommodation and local banking before arrival. Learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly recommended and helps significantly with daily life and workplace communication.
