Destination Guide

The United Kingdom offers strong opportunities for occupational therapists across the NHS, private providers, community services, mental health, social care and rehabilitation. Work culture is generally professional, multidisciplinary and focused on patient-centred practice, safeguarding and evidence-based care. The lifestyle varies widely: London and the South East are busy and expensive, while regional cities and rural areas may offer lower housing costs and a slower pace. The UK has reliable public transport, though community roles may require driving. Overseas occupational therapists normally need Health and Care Professions Council registration and appropriate immigration permission. A Health and Care Worker visa may be available for eligible sponsored permanent roles, but bank or casual positions may not provide sponsorship. Check current visa rules, registration requirements, salary thresholds and employer sponsorship before relocating.
