Activities Assistant - Care Home

United Kingdom Barchester Healthcare £13.21 an hour*
Job Description

The Activities Assistant supports residents in a care home by planning and delivering enjoyable group and individual activities that promote wellbeing, independence and social engagement. Duties may include organising games, arts and crafts, outings, music, celebrations and reminiscence sessions, while adapting activities to residents’ abilities and interests. Candidates should be caring, enthusiastic, creative and confident working with older people, including those living with dementia. Good communication, teamwork, reliability and patience are essential. Previous experience in a care, hospitality, leisure or activity-based role is useful, although a positive attitude and willingness to learn may be equally important. The role requires safeguarding awareness, respect for dignity and the ability to maintain accurate records and follow health and safety procedures.

Company Info

Barchester Healthcare is one of the United Kingdom’s major independent care providers, operating care homes and hospitals across England, Scotland and Wales. Its services include residential care, nursing care, dementia care, respite care and specialist support for people with complex needs. Barchester employs a large workforce of carers, nurses, activity staff, hospitality teams, administrators and clinical professionals. The organisation places emphasis on person-centred care, quality of life and creating welcoming communities for residents. Activities teams are an important part of this approach, helping residents remain socially connected, active and engaged. Individual homes vary in size and specialism, but employees are generally expected to work collaboratively, uphold safeguarding standards and treat residents, families and colleagues with dignity and respect.

Destination Guide

The United Kingdom offers employment opportunities in healthcare, social care, technology, finance, engineering, education, hospitality and logistics. Its culture is diverse, with strong traditions around community, sport, music and public services, while lifestyles range from busy cities to quieter coastal and rural areas. Major cities provide better transport and wider job choices but usually have higher housing costs. A valid work permission is required for most overseas applicants. Some healthcare roles may qualify for the Health and Care Worker visa, but an Activities Assistant position may not meet current sponsorship or occupation requirements, so applicants should check official UK government rules and the employer’s sponsorship policy. Relocation normally requires planning for accommodation, travel, National Insurance, banking and healthcare registration. The UK has four constituent countries, each offering distinct landscapes and local identities.
