Destination Guide

The United Kingdom offers substantial opportunities in health and social care, especially for care assistants, nurses and support workers, although vacancies and pay vary considerably by region. British culture is generally polite, diverse and community-oriented, with strong traditions in sport, music, festivals and historic towns. Lifestyle costs are highest in London and the southeast; northern England, Wales, Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland can be more affordable. Public transport is good in cities, while rural care homes may require a car. Overseas applicants should check current UK visa rules carefully. New overseas applications for care workers and senior care workers were restricted from 11 March 2025, though limited in-country routes and transitional arrangements may apply. Employers must be licensed sponsors where sponsorship is permitted. Applicants should confirm eligibility, English-language requirements, salary rules and registration needs through official UK government sources before relocating.
