United Kingdom Primary Care Careers Depends on experience*
Job Description

The Practice Nurse provides routine and chronic disease care in a primary-care setting. Typical requirements include current UK Nursing and Midwifery Council registration, relevant nursing experience, strong clinical assessment skills, and evidence of continuing professional development. Experience in immunisations, health checks, wound care, cervical screening, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and other long-term-condition management is often desirable. The successful candidate is expected to deliver safe, compassionate, and patient-centred care, maintain accurate records, work effectively with GPs and the wider practice team, and follow safeguarding, infection-control, confidentiality, and clinical-governance procedures. Good communication, organisation, autonomy, and a commitment to health promotion are essential.

Company Info

Primary Care Careers supports recruitment and career opportunities across general practice and primary care services in the United Kingdom. It connects qualified healthcare professionals with roles in GP surgeries, primary-care networks, community services, and related organisations. Opportunities may include nursing, administration, healthcare assistance, pharmacy, and other clinical positions. Employers using the service generally seek candidates who can provide safe, effective, and patient-focused care while working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Terms and conditions vary between employers, with some roles following NHS Agenda for Change arrangements and others using locally agreed contracts. Candidates should review the individual advert carefully for details about the employing practice, working hours, benefits, registration requirements, and application process.

Destination Guide

The United Kingdom offers substantial opportunities for registered nurses in NHS hospitals, GP practices, community care, and private healthcare. Its culture is diverse, generally polite, and highly multicultural, with strong professional standards and respect for work-life balance. Lifestyle varies from busy cities to quieter coastal and rural areas; public transport is widely available, though housing costs are high in London and parts of southern England. Overseas nurses normally need NMC registration, an approved English-language qualification, and an appropriate work visa, commonly the Health and Care Worker visa sponsored by an eligible employer. The process may involve qualification verification, a computer-based test, an objective structured clinical examination, health checks, and criminal-record documentation. Relocating candidates should budget for accommodation deposits, transport, registration costs, and initial living expenses. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland may offer lower housing costs than London.
