Destination Guide

The UAE is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of banking and professional opportunities. Demand is strong in corporate banking, public-sector finance, compliance, risk, technology, consulting, logistics, tourism and healthcare. The culture is multicultural and professionally oriented, while Islamic traditions influence holidays, dress and business etiquette. Lifestyle options range from modern city living, beaches and restaurants to desert activities and family attractions. Most expatriates enter on an employer-sponsored employment visa; the employer normally arranges work authorization, medical checks and Emirates ID procedures. Dependents may be sponsored if salary and housing requirements are met. Relocation costs, health insurance, accommodation and schooling should be reviewed carefully because living expenses can be high, particularly in Dubai. The UAE has no personal income tax on employment income, although other fees and taxes may apply.
