Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of banking, finance, technology, and professional-services opportunities. The country has a multicultural, international workforce and a business culture that values professionalism, relationships, punctuality, and respect for local customs. Lifestyle options range from modern city living, beaches, restaurants, and shopping to desert activities and quieter residential communities. Most expatriates require employer-sponsored residence and work visas; employers generally manage permits, medical checks, Emirates ID processing, and related formalities. Families may need separate sponsorship, school arrangements, and health insurance. Relocating candidates should review housing, transport, schooling, insurance, banking, and employment-contract details. Salaries are commonly tax-efficient because the UAE generally has no personal income tax, although living costs, particularly housing and education, can be substantial.
