Destination Guide

Malaysia is not one island: career opportunities are concentrated in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley, while Penang, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak offer growing roles in finance, technology, manufacturing, logistics and tourism. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures, with English widely used in business. Life is generally affordable compared with Singapore, with excellent food, modern shopping, tropical weather and convenient urban transport; traffic and humidity can be challenging. Penang offers a relaxed, heritage-focused lifestyle, while Kuala Lumpur provides the strongest professional network and international schools. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with eligibility, salary thresholds and approval requirements subject to government rules. Employers often support visa processing and relocation, but candidates should confirm tax, schooling, healthcare and housing arrangements before moving. Malaysia’s diverse communities, weekend beaches and access to regional travel make it attractive for international banking professionals.
