Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, shared services, technology, accounting, tourism, manufacturing, and international business, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, and Sabah and Sarawak. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous cultures, with English widely used in professional workplaces. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be relatively expensive. Malaysia’s islands, including Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, and parts of Sabah, offer beaches, diving, food, and relaxed weekend travel. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, and role. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking, tax registration, and transportation. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest career market, while Penang offers a slower pace and growing technology and manufacturing sectors.
