Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state and a leading Asian hub for finance, technology, trade and professional services. Job opportunities are strong in banking, risk, compliance, technology, data, healthcare, logistics and regional headquarters functions, although competition is high. The culture is multicultural, orderly and business-oriented, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Lifestyle is convenient, safe and urban, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, parks and easy regional travel. Housing is the largest expense; renting centrally can be costly, while public-housing areas offer better value. International hires generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and government assessment. Employers usually handle the application, but approval is not automatic. New arrivals should budget for rent, deposits, insurance and schooling if relocating with family. Singapore’s warm, humid climate and efficient services make it attractive, but living costs and demanding work schedules should be considered.
