Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in banking, technology, manufacturing, consulting, healthcare, education, and tourism, with Tokyo providing the largest concentration of international roles. The culture values punctuality, reliability, respect, and careful attention to detail; business communication can be formal, and Japanese ability is a significant advantage. Lifestyle ranges from dense, energetic city living to quieter coastal and rural communities, with excellent public transport, safety, food, and healthcare. Most foreign employees need an appropriate work visa, commonly sponsored by the employer; qualifications and an employment contract are normally required. Relocation involves arranging housing, residence registration, health insurance, a bank account, and often a phone contract. Tokyo is expensive, while regional cities may offer lower living costs. Japan’s major islands—Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku—each have distinct climates and lifestyles, though finance careers are concentrated mainly in Tokyo and Osaka.
