Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it is a diverse Gulf country made up of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of jobs. Opportunities are strong in aviation, tourism, hospitality, retail, logistics, technology, finance and digital marketing. The culture blends Islamic traditions, Arab heritage and a highly international population; modest dress and respect for local customs are expected. Lifestyle ranges from busy city living and beach activities to desert excursions, with hot summers and generally mild winters. Most expatriates need employer-sponsored residence and work visas, usually arranged after accepting a job. Employers commonly assist with medical checks, Emirates ID processing and relocation paperwork, although benefits vary. Housing, schooling and transport can be expensive, especially in Dubai, so candidates should review the full package. English is widely used, while Arabic is useful for customer-facing and government-related work.
