Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a densely populated international city comprising Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, rather than a single resort island. It offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, finance, retail, aviation, technology and tourism. The culture blends Chinese traditions with international influences, and Cantonese is widely spoken alongside English and Mandarin. Life is energetic, convenient and urban, with excellent public transport, varied food, shopping, hiking trails and coastal areas. Rent can be expensive, especially on Hong Kong Island, although staff housing or allowances may be available for some hospitality roles. Overseas employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa and must meet immigration requirements before starting work. Applicants should confirm salary, benefits, accommodation, medical coverage and visa sponsorship directly with Shangri-La. Hong Kong has a subtropical climate, busy peak seasons and a fast-paced workplace culture.
