Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with major hospitality opportunities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Sharjah. The country offers strong prospects in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, events and tourism, particularly for experienced international chefs. UAE culture blends Islamic traditions, Emirati heritage and a highly international population. Respectful dress, religious customs and local laws are important, while daily life offers modern shopping, beaches, desert activities, global cuisine and excellent infrastructure. Employers normally sponsor an employment visa, residence permit and medical testing after an offer is accepted; employees should not work on a tourist visa. Contracts may include accommodation, transport, meals, medical insurance and annual flights, but terms vary. Relocating candidates should verify salary, housing, probation, leave, insurance and repatriation provisions before signing. Summer heat is intense, and living costs can be high in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
