Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in banking, markets, risk, compliance, technology, logistics, professional services and regional headquarters. Cantonese and English are widely used in business, while Mandarin is also valuable. The culture is fast-paced, international and commercially focused, with a blend of Chinese traditions and global influences. Despite high housing costs, residents benefit from excellent public transport, efficient services, diverse restaurants and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Popular residential areas include Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with commuting often easier than expected by MTR. Foreign professionals generally need employer sponsorship for an employment visa, and applications normally require a confirmed job, relevant qualifications or experience, and proof of suitable remuneration. Dependants may qualify for accompanying visas. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, healthcare and schooling, and confirm tax, visa and relocation details before moving.
