Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities in software engineering, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data, healthcare, construction, education, mining and professional services, especially in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Perth. Its culture is generally informal, direct and multicultural, with emphasis on work-life balance, teamwork and outdoor living. Major cities provide excellent restaurants, beaches, national parks and public services, although housing and transport costs can be high. Climate varies from tropical in the north to temperate in the south. Skilled professionals usually explore employer-sponsored visas, the Skilled Independent visa or state and territory nomination pathways; eligibility depends on occupation, qualifications, experience, English ability and age. Employer sponsorship is often the most practical route for experienced technology workers. Before relocating, check current Department of Home Affairs rules, compare salary with local living costs, arrange health insurance and research tax, housing and school requirements.
