Destination Guide

Thailand’s islands, including Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Krabi’s islands, and Koh Chang, offer a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities, and established international communities. Most professional banking and investment opportunities are concentrated in Bangkok, while island employment is more common in hospitality, tourism, property, diving, wellness, education, and digital or freelance work. Thai culture places importance on politeness, respect, family, and maintaining harmony; learning basic Thai is helpful. Living costs vary, with Phuket and Samui generally more expensive than smaller islands. Foreign employees normally need a Thai Non-Immigrant B visa and a work permit sponsored by an eligible employer before starting work. Relocation involves arranging accommodation, health insurance, banking, tax registration, and transportation. Bangkok is usually the practical base for this UOB role, with island travel suitable for holidays or longer stays after securing compliant employment arrangements.
