Destination Guide

Indonesia offers varied career opportunities across Java, Sumatra, Bali, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. Jakarta, on Java, is the main hub for banking, technology, consulting, and multinational employers, while Surabaya, Bandung, and Medan also have growing business sectors. Bali is popular for tourism, hospitality, digital work, and an international lifestyle, though professional banking roles are fewer. Indonesian culture values community, respect, family, and religious diversity; modest dress and workplace courtesy are appreciated. Living costs vary considerably, with Jakarta and Bali generally more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate visa, with requirements subject to Indonesian immigration rules. Relocating employees should confirm sponsorship, taxation, health insurance, housing, and registration arrangements before arrival. English is common in multinational companies, but basic Indonesian greatly improves daily life and workplace integration.
