Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, shared services, technology, tourism, manufacturing, and customer-support operations, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, and major urban centres. Its culture combines Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous, and international influences, with Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, and Tamil commonly used in daily life and business. The lifestyle is generally affordable, with excellent food, tropical weather, modern shopping, and convenient public transport in large cities. Malaysia’s islands, including Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, and the Perhentians, offer beaches, diving, and relaxed living, although employment is concentrated on the mainland. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, while dependants require appropriate passes. Before relocating, confirm sponsorship, salary, healthcare, accommodation, tax obligations, and work-shift arrangements. Kuala Lumpur is the most practical base for UOB employment.
