Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, manufacturing, tourism, healthcare and education, with Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru being major employment centres. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures, reflected in its festivals, food and multilingual communities. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular expatriate areas are more expensive. Malaysia has beaches and islands including Langkawi, Penang, Redang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak, while cities provide modern transport, shopping and healthcare. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the hiring company submitting the application and meeting salary and qualification requirements. Relocating employees should arrange accommodation, tax registration, banking, health insurance and schooling if relevant. English is widely used in business, though learning basic Malay is useful for daily life.
