Destination Guide

Barbados offers strong employment opportunities in tourism and hospitality, including hotels, restaurants, housekeeping, culinary services, guest relations, watersports and management. There are also openings in healthcare, education, construction, finance, retail and technology. Barbadian culture blends West African, British and Caribbean influences, with friendly social traditions, music, cricket, festivals and excellent local food. The lifestyle is relaxed, but housing, transportation and imported goods can be expensive, especially near popular west and south coast areas. Barbados has good beaches, public transport, healthcare facilities and reliable communications. Foreign nationals generally need a work permit before beginning employment; this is normally arranged or supported by the employer, and an entry or visitor visa does not authorize work. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, salary, taxes, insurance and relocation costs before accepting an offer. Bringing certified documents and allowing time for immigration processing is advisable.
