Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in software engineering, cloud computing, cybersecurity, enterprise platforms, consulting, automotive technology, finance, robotics, and digital transformation. Tokyo provides the widest range of international roles, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Yokohama also have growing technology markets. Japanese workplace culture values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, respect, and careful communication, although global companies often use more flexible working styles. Living costs are highest in Tokyo; public transport is excellent, healthcare is reliable, and daily life is generally safe and convenient. Depending on the position, foreign professionals usually need an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa or a Highly Skilled Professional visa. Employers commonly sponsor applications, but applicants must provide academic and career documents. Relocating may require arranging housing, residence registration, health insurance, banking, and tax procedures. Japanese language ability is helpful, particularly for client-facing roles, though some multinational positions operate primarily in English.
