Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare and business services. The country has a diverse culture shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and colonial influences, with Buddhism playing a major role in daily life. Colombo is the main commercial centre and offers the widest range of professional roles, restaurants, schools and international services. Living costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although housing and imported goods can be expensive in Colombo. The island is known for beaches, tea country, wildlife, historic cities and welcoming communities. Foreign nationals normally require an appropriate employment visa or residence approval, usually supported by the sponsoring employer; tourist visas do not permit employment. Relocating applicants should confirm current requirements with Sri Lankan authorities, arrange medical and document checks, and consider transport, healthcare, schooling and accommodation before moving.
