Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, tourism, logistics, finance, engineering, healthcare and business services. Colombo and nearby areas have the strongest concentration of corporate jobs, while industrial zones and regional cities provide manufacturing opportunities. The culture is welcoming and diverse, shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and other communities. English is widely used in business, alongside Sinhala and Tamil. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many major global cities, although Colombo housing can be relatively expensive. The island provides beaches, mountains, wildlife parks, historic cities and excellent local food. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored employment visa or residence authorization and should confirm current requirements with Sri Lankan immigration authorities. Relocation planning should include accommodation, healthcare, transport, taxation, document legalization and local banking arrangements.
